Colorize a video
Upload a black-and-white, sepia, or faded clip. A local AI reads the scene, writes a colour description, and the video model paints in natural colours across the whole clip. The original audio carries over. Steer the colours with your own notes or leave it to choose.
Model
LTX-2.3 (22B) by Lightricks. An open weights video model, running here with a Colorization adapter that adds colour while holding the scene and motion steady. Released under the LTX-2 Community License.
Gemma 4 (4B) by Google. Runs locally to analyse the footage and write the colour prompt for you, so you can start with no prompt at all.
HOW IT WORKS
Step 1. Upload your video
The clip you want colorized. Black-and-white, sepia, or desaturated footage all work.
Works great with: archival film · old home movies · faded footage
Step 2. Add colour instructions (optional)
Describe specific colours you want, like "warm skin tones, charcoal suit, dark walnut table." Leave it empty and the model reads the scene and picks realistic colours.
Step 3. Hit run and download
The model colorizes the clip and keeps the original audio. This is a large model, so give it a little longer to finish.

First time? Leave every setting as-is. The defaults are the right starting point for almost everyone.
RECOMMENDED SETTINGS
Quick-start guide. Find the goal that matches yours and copy the settings.
Standard use (most people) — 544p landscape (960x544), 121 frames, 8 steps, enhance prompt on, original audio on. The right starting point for almost everyone.
Footage is tall — switch the resolution preset to 544p portrait so vertical clips keep their frame instead of getting cropped.
Want specific colours — type them into the colour instructions and turn enhance prompt off to use only your notes. Leave it on to blend your notes with the model's read of the scene.
Want a longer clip — raise the frame count above 121. At 24 frames per second, 121 frames is about five seconds, so add frames for more time.
Want a silent result — turn off use original audio. It stays on by default so the source soundtrack carries over.
Want the exact same result again — set a fixed seed in place of random. Random gives you a fresh take on each run.
Prompt: Name the colours you care about and leave the rest to the model. "Warm skin tones, navy uniform, brass buttons, green grass behind" guides the key elements while the scene read fills in the rest. Keep it to the colours, not the action, since the movement comes from your source clip. Leave it empty to let the model choose realistic colours on its own.

Do I need to write a prompt?
No. The enhance prompt setting is on by default, so a local Gemma model watches the footage and writes the colour description for you. You can add your own colour notes on top, or turn enhance prompt off to use only what you typed.
Does it keep the original audio?
Yes. Use original audio is on by default, so the soundtrack from your source clip carries over into the colorized result. Turn it off if you want a silent version to score yourself.
What footage works best for colorization?
Clear black-and-white or sepia clips with steady shots, even exposure, and recognisable subjects give the model the most to work with. Heavy film damage, strong grain, fast motion, and dark or blown-out frames are harder and can produce softer colour.
What is the Colorization adapter?
It is an adapter trained to teach LTX-2.3 how to add colour to a clip consistently from frame to frame. It keeps the scene, lighting, and motion of your source footage while filling in colour, rather than regenerating the shot.
Can I use LTX-2.3 commercially?
LTX-2.3 is released under the LTX-2 Community License. It is free for commercial use if your company earns under 10 million dollars in annual revenue, and Lightricks offers a separate commercial license above that. Make sure you also hold the rights to the footage you upload.
